Helpful Tips from the Professionals Regarding Your Safety in the Mountains
There are several things you absolutely should take into account when planning your hiking tour:
- Ankle high water resistant hiking, trekking or tour shoes with anti-slip soles (no running or basket ball shoes) are a must, also for children! Some hiking tours lead through areas of rocky ground, snow and difficult terrain. Your safety is contingent upon wearing shoes with deep profiles.
- Rain gear: hoods, over pants, jacket
- Sunscreen lotion with a high SPF and something to cover your head is always a good idea.
- Warm clothing (fleece jacket, jumper, gloves and cap for hikes to elevations above 2,800 metres) – at a high altitude you will encounter low temperatures even if the weather is beautiful.
- Plenty to drink for your hike.
- Assess your own physical fitness realistically: tours at high elevations are far more taxing! Do not underestimate the time it will take you to make your way back down from your tour destination.
- Let your hosts know the planned duration of your hike, the destination and route so that you can receive speedy assistance in the event of an emergency.
- If you are planning to take difficult tours into unknown terrain, we recommend you have an experienced Tyrolean mountain guide accompany you.
