Chronicle of See
You'll find a brief excursion to the history of your holiday resort here. Discover how the village of See had developed over the last few centuries.
The name See derives from the circumstance that the valley floor of the present village was once covered by a lake, traces of which are still to be found today. Its disappearance is attributed to a heavy landslide, resulting in excessive accumulation which then caused the break-through and drain-off of the lake.
As early as the 13th century, farmers from the villages of Serfaus and Fiß founded a settlement with the name See. In the year 1433 the village was officially mentioned for the first time, under the name "ze dem See in Pacznawn" (at the lake in the Paznaun). As a result of the pattern of settling, until 1792 See belonged to the administrative district of Landeck and until 1630 to the parish of Serfaus.
Since 1972, the cable cars bring guests and inhabitants in winter and summer to the skiing area and to numerous hiking tours and mountain bike tours in the mountains. Since this time, capacities have been continuously expanded, so that 10,000 persons can now be transported per hour. Tourism has become the most important industry of the village of See.
